The two masks behind the name
Venetian masquerade was never one object. It was a wardrobe with rules — and two forms sat at its centre.
Bauta
The mask that could speakAngular, full-faced, with a chin cut forward so the wearer could eat, drink and argue politics without lifting it. The bauta was built for presence. Our men's and unisex pieces borrow its architecture: strong lines, weight in the hand, a shape that reads across a room.
Moretta
The mask that stayed silentA small black oval held in place by a button gripped between the teeth — beautiful, and deliberately mute. The moretta traded speech for mystery. Its spirit runs through our lace and filigree work: fine detail, close to the face, everything implied rather than announced.
Why we made a label
We have spent more than a decade watching what happens when someone finds the right mask. The look assembles itself. The evening changes.
We wanted a name for masks selected for their finish, proportion, detail and how they look when actually worn. Selected for quality, presentation and value — not built around constant discounting.
Bauta & Moretta is that name. It goes on the masks we would wear ourselves.
A design philosophy, not a costume
Venice worked in a narrow palette and got endless variety from it. We do the same.
Black, cream and gold. Metal that holds its shape. Lace that keeps its pattern under low light. Feathers set at an angle that flatters rather than overwhelms. Restraint is the point — a mask should be the most interesting thing about an outfit without being the loudest.
Nothing here is a reproduction. These are contemporary pieces made for contemporary events, drawing on a tradition that understood elegance better than most.

What we pay attention to
Fit
A mask that slips or pinches comes off within the hour. How a piece sits — the ties, the nose bridge, the curve across the cheekbone — is part of why it makes the range at all.
Detail
Stones set straight. Lace that holds its edge. Gilt that reads warm rather than yellow. The things you notice at arm's length, which is exactly where a mask is seen.
Presentation
Photographed as it will actually look on you, described honestly on size and finish, and packed to arrive intact. No surprises between the screen and the night itself.
Bauta & Moretta is a brand from Luxury Mask, a U.S. masquerade specialist serving customers since 2013. We are not a Venetian house and have never claimed to be — we have simply spent more than a decade learning what makes a mask worth wearing, and took our name from the tradition that set the standard.
