A masquerade theme is one of the easiest ways to elevate a Halloween party from costumes-and-candy into something guests actually remember.
Set expectations on the invitation
Be specific: masquerade alone can mean anything from full costume to cocktail attire with a mask. Spell out the dress code and mention that masks are required, not optional, so nobody arrives without one.
Give guests a mask station
Not everyone will own a mask. Set up a small station near the entrance with a basket of extras — unisex styles work well here since they suit most guests without needing sizing. It photographs beautifully too, and gives people something to do the moment they arrive.
Coordinate color, not costume
Rather than asking guests to coordinate full costumes, suggest a mask color palette — black and gold, or jewel tones — so the room looks pulled together in photos without anyone needing an elaborate outfit.
Lighting matters more than you'd think
Metallic and rhinestone-accented masks need light to catch on them. Warm, dim lighting with a few brighter spots near the photo area will make every mask in the room look better than flat overhead lighting would.
